Naouseda responded to the first downing of a drone in Lithuanian airspace

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda commented on the downing of a drone that violated the country’s airspace. He thanked the military forces of NATO countries for their swift response and urged them to be prepared for similar incidents in the future.

Nausėda noted that the drone, which entered Lithuanian airspace, was shot down by fighter jets from a NATO patrol mission.

“I am grateful to the military personnel of our allied nations for their swift response. At a time when Russia is escalating its aggression against Ukraine, this readiness is vital for our region,” the Lithuanian president wrote on the social media platform X. According to Nausėda, Lithuania, together with its NATO allies, will continue to defend its airspace.

Earlier, NATO fighter jets shot down a drone in Lithuanian airspace.

Prior to that, an airport in Lithuania was closed and a NATO fighter jet was scrambled due to a flock of birds.

Lithuania closed its airspace near the capital, Vilnius, following a report of a possible drone sighting. The Lithuanian National Crisis Management Center reported a possible drone in the country’s airspace.
