Nauseda warns against jumping to conclusions about U.S. troops in Europe — LRT

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has urged the international community and analysts not to jump to conclusions regarding the redeployment of U.S. military forces on the European continent.

The politician’s statement was quoted by LRT.

The head of state emphasized that the final outcome of this large-scale troop redeployment process has most likely not yet been finalized.

At the same time, the Lithuanian leader expressed his deep hope that U.S. Armed Forces units will ultimately maintain their presence on Lithuanian territory.

The Lithuanian side is convinced of the high level of awareness among American partners regarding current threats and challenges in the region.

The U.S. leadership continues to closely monitor defense issues on NATO’s eastern flank.

Vilnius is counting on the preservation of the strategic partnership and the continued presence of foreign military personnel at its bases.

“As far as I know, the U.S. leadership is certainly monitoring the situation in this region very closely and fully understands our security needs... Therefore, I hope that as a result of all these redeployments, we will be able to continue to enjoy and take pride in the presence of U.S. troops here in Lithuania,” he stated.

The head of state’s official comments came amid recent reports from the U.S. Department of Defense.

In particular, it was reported this week that the Pentagon has temporarily suspended the planned deployment of 4,000 U.S. troops to neighboring Poland.

The current maneuvers and changes in plans indicate a global review of Washington’s defense strategy on the continent.

A transformation of the overall security architecture is currently underway, which requires some time to complete all logistical and tactical procedures.

“Right now, we’re seeing a broader picture of the deployment, and perhaps this picture—this new mosaic—hasn’t quite come together yet,” Nauseda said.

Lithuania has denied claims that its airspace was used for strikes against Russia

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense officially announced the purchase of new-generation Giraffe 1X radar stations from the Saab defense group.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda signed a law establishing a new military training ground in the Suvalkai Corridor and expanding another training site near the border with Russia. The decision is explained by the need to strengthen the country’s defense capabilities and contribute to NATO’s collective security.
