Netanyahu and Smotrich criticize Lieberman's plan on Jordan — Jerusalem Post
In Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich criticized Israel Beiteinu party leader and former Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman over his proposal concerning Jordan's role in governing and providing security in the West Bank.
As the Jerusalem Post reports, Lieberman said in an interview with BeSheva that Jordan should exercise security control in areas B and C of the West Bank. Netanyahu called on him to immediately withdraw the proposal and said he did not expect the politician to suggest handing the Jordanian army control over parts of the Land of Israel.
Netanyahu and Smotrich's reaction
Smotrich said that transferring security responsibility in Judea and Samaria to Jordan would mean that Israel was abandoning its own security responsibility. He also said that, in his view, such a proposal would return the country to the days of the Jordanian Legion.

Lieberman's clarification
Lieberman later clarified his position. According to him, Israel must ensure the territorial continuity of the entire Area C and retain full control over it. At the same time, he proposed finding an alternative for administrative and security control in Areas A and B.
The politician said that Israel should reach an agreement with Jordan on governing Areas A and B, calling this model an “Israeli-Jordanian confederation.” In an interview with Ynet on January 23, 2025, Lieberman had already proposed that Jordan administer Areas A and B, while Israel would administer Area C. In 2024, he also put forward a plan under which Jordan would be responsible for Area A and Egypt for the Gaza Strip.
