Netanyahu says overthrowing the regime in Iran is "achievable"

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that overthrowing the current regime in Iran is "achievable." At an event attended by Israeli military leaders, he said that the Iranian regime is weakened and fighting for survival.

Netanyahu's statement

"This regime is now wavering. It is weaker than ever. It is fighting for its survival," Netanyahu said. According to him, eliminating the threat means overthrowing the regime in Iran, and this is the main task that still remains to be accomplished.

As Asharq Al-Awsat reports, the Israeli prime minister expressed confidence that this can be achieved. "It is close. It is not impossible. It is achievable," he said.

Escalation around Iran

The publication notes that at the end of February, Netanyahu launched a joint attack on Iran with the United States. In April, U.S. President Donald Trump suddenly announced a ceasefire; however, this week the United States resumed strikes and increased economic pressure on Tehran.

According to the publication, Iran responded by carrying out strikes in the Persian Gulf region, Jordan, and Iraq's autonomous Kurdish region, but not against Israel. Netanyahu said this was because Iran realizes Israel's military strength and resolve.

The statement came ahead of Israel's general elections, scheduled for October 27. The publication writes that some polls show Netanyahu trailing, while opposition leaders accuse him of failures regarding Iran.
