The Netherlands is withdrawing from the Interflex program to train Ukrainian military personnel

The Netherlands is withdrawing from Interflex, the British multinational program for training Ukrainian military personnel. This decision is linked to the project’s transition to a new format, which will involve more specialized training. The program has been in operation for four years and has helped train thousands of Ukrainian military personnel. Going forward, training will focus on specialized skills and specific areas of military training.

The program’s transition to a new phase

June 2026 marks four years since the launch of Operation Interflex—a multinational initiative led by the United Kingdom aimed at training Ukrainian military personnel.

During this period, more than 63,000 Ukrainian military personnel, including infantrymen, commanders, and instructors, have completed training.

The program is now entering a new phase focused on in-depth and specialized training designed for the long-term development of military capabilities.

New training areas

The updated Interflex format includes an expansion of training areas. Among them is helicopter flight instructor training, the first graduates of which completed the course last month.

Emphasis is also placed on medical and engineering training, which is intended to strengthen the practical skills of the units.

The Netherlands’ Participation and Position

According to the Dutch Ministry of Defense, the current rotation marks the end of their contribution to the Interflex program.

At the same time, it is emphasized that the initiative itself continues under the leadership of the United Kingdom, but with a shift toward more specialized training areas.

The ministry noted that international support for Ukraine remains, but it is now being adapted to the current needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

International cooperation continues

Despite withdrawing from Interflex, the Netherlands will continue to participate in the training of Ukrainian military personnel through other initiatives, notably the European Union Military Advisory Mission (EUMAM).

Meanwhile, events were held in the United Kingdom to mark the program’s four-year anniversary, attended by representatives of partner countries and Ukraine. During the ceremony, the project’s achievements and the participants’ contributions to its implementation were highlighted.
