Nigeria prepares to host the 2027 African School Games — Premium Times Nigeria
President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee Habu Gumel said that the country’s preparations to host the 2027 African School Games in Abuja are on track. The competitions are scheduled to take place in Nigeria’s capital from August 2 to 11, 2027.
Presentation of plans
As Premium Times Nigeria reports, Nigeria presented its plan for hosting the tournament to the General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa. According to Gumel, this took place during the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan, where the plan was received positively.

Gumel said that he attended the competitions together with the chair of the Local Organising Committee for the African School Games. He expressed confidence that Nigeria would be able to host the tournament successfully.
Participation of African athletes
The president of the Nigeria Olympic Committee also noted that representatives of all 54 national Olympic committees of Africa were invited to observe the Asian Games. The African School Games are expected to bring together young athletes from across the continent, who will compete in various sports disciplines.
