Nigeria plans to increase gas production amid war in Iran
Nigeria is considering increasing gas production amid tensions in the global natural gas market caused by the war in Iran. Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ekperikpe Ekpo, said that the war by the United States and Israel against Iran had prompted the country to step up its gas projects.

As Al Jazeera English reports, Ekpo discussed plans to build a gas pipeline between Nigeria and Morocco. According to him, the country seeks to attract investment, increase production and strengthen its position in liquefied natural gas on the international market. He named Europe, where demand for gas is growing, as a potentially important destination.

Prices for consumers
At the same time, high prices for household liquefied petroleum gas persist in Nigeria. The minister spoke about measures to reduce its cost for the population and transition millions of households from firewood, charcoal and kerosene to gas.
Other stated priorities include reducing gas flaring and accelerating 20 gas projects. They are planned to reach the final investment decision stage by 2030.
