Nigerian military says it repelled ISWAP attack on base in Pulka
The Nigerian military said it repelled an attack by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on a military base in Pulka, in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. According to the military, one service member sustained a gunshot wound to the left arm and is receiving treatment.
Attempt to seize the base
As Premium Times Nigeria reports, the attack took place on Monday. Captain Mohammed Goni, spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, the joint task force in northeastern Nigeria, said the attackers attempted to seize the base, but ground units resisted them.
According to Goni, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force also took part in the operation. The air component of Operation Hadin Kai provided intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance during the attack.

Actions during the retreat
The spokesperson said coordinated actions forced the attackers to retreat with losses, without specifying their number. According to him, when the attackers tried to leave the area, the air component carried out precision strikes on identified enemy targets to prevent their withdrawal and regrouping.
Goni also said that military positions in Pulka remained under the control of security forces. According to him, the military is assessing the aftermath of the battle, searching for abandoned weapons and gathering intelligence that may help track the attackers. Patrols, surveillance, and defensive and offensive operations are continuing in the area, the spokesperson said.
ISWAP is one of the breakaway factions of Boko Haram. Premium Times Nigeria notes that the group has stepped up attacks on military bases in recent years.
