Germany will fund the purchase of hundreds of Patriot missiles for Ukraine

The German government will cover the cost of Ukraine’s contract with the American company Raytheon for the production of several hundred anti-aircraft missiles for Patriot systems.

This was reported by the German Ministry of Defense following intergovernmental consultations in Berlin, according to “European Truth.” The parties signed a series of strategic agreements covering the strengthening of air defense, the development of long-range capabilities, and the joint production of drones.

In addition to the Patriot missiles, an agreement was reached with Diehl Defence to supply additional launchers for the IRIS-T systems, funded by Berlin. As part of the “Build with Ukraine” initiative, plans are in place to establish a joint venture to produce thousands of medium- and long-range drones using advanced technologies. Germany is also investing several hundred million euros in developing Ukraine’s long-range capabilities to strike the aggressor’s strategic targets.

A key milestone in the cooperation was an agreement on the exchange of battlefield data, which will allow for the analysis of the effectiveness of German weapon systems and the implementation of digital solutions such as DELTA. Such integration will help Ukraine adapt military innovations more quickly, and Germany—strengthen its own industrial capabilities and the security of the Bundeswehr. The strengthening of the defense alliance comes against the backdrop of official confirmation of a systemic recession in the Russian economy, indicating that the aggressor’s resources for waging a protracted war are being exhausted.

German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced the transition to a strategic partnership with Ukraine and the resumption of intergovernmental consultations, which had not been held for over 20 years.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Berlin on April 14.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz officially confirmed support for Kyiv’s European integration aspirations, emphasizing the fundamental importance of this step for the stability of the entire continent.
