Germany and India are strengthening their defense cooperation

Germany and India have agreed to expand their strategic partnership in the defense sector, particularly in the field of submarine construction.

This was reported by the German Ministry of Defense.

During a meeting in Berlin, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and his Indian counterpart Rajnath Singh signed two key documents. These include a ten-year roadmap for defense-industrial cooperation, which provides for joint research, development, and production of military equipment, as well as a memorandum on cooperation in UN peacekeeping missions.

As part of the visit, the delegation toured the Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems facility in Kiel, where they inspected the German submarine U34.

The parties paid special attention to the P75(I) project, which involves the construction of six submarines for the Indian Navy.

Pistorius emphasized that India is one of Germany’s key strategic partners in the Indo-Pacific region, and that cooperation between the countries is aimed at supporting a rules-based international order.

He also highlighted the high demand for German shipbuilding technology, noting that Germany, together with Norway, is offering Canada submarines of the U212 CD class.

India has approved $25 billion in military procurement to strengthen its armed forces following the conflict with Pakistan. The list includes aircraft, drones, missiles, and surveillance systems. The country is actively modernizing its military and increasing defense spending.

The Indian Armed Forces have purchased dozens of “Berkut-BM” single-use drones developed by the Belarusian company Indela.
