Germany to Cut Aviation Tax Starting in July to Support the Aviation Industry — Tagesschau

On the evening of May 21, the German government officially decided to significantly reduce the air transport tax starting in July of this year, maintaining the reduced rate until May 2024.

This was reported by the German publication Tagesschau, noting that the relevant legislative changes are intended to ease the tax burden on airlines and stimulate passenger traffic.

The main goal of this move is to provide systematic financial support to the national aviation sector, which is facing significant challenges.

According to the approved updated rules, the aviation tax will be reduced by an amount ranging from €2.50 to €11.40, depending on the final distance of a specific flight.

The new tax rates will be clearly differentiated for short-, medium-, and long-haul passenger flights.

This approach will help balance ticket prices on both domestic European routes and long-haul intercontinental routes.

The German aviation industry welcomed the government’s decision, calling it an important signal of support for the sector.

Leading airlines and airport operators expect that reducing the tax burden will help stabilize pricing policies and enhance the competitiveness of German hubs in the international market.

The reduction in fees is intended to partially offset other operating costs, which have risen sharply in recent years.

Germany announced Europe’s final rejection of Russian energy resources

As a reminder, the European Union is preparing for an energy crisis due to the war in the Middle East. Authorities are considering fuel rationing and the use of emergency oil reserves. Energy prices are expected to remain high for a long time.
