German police carried out large-scale raids against a far-right group

On March 17, 2026, German law enforcement authorities conducted a series of searches at the homes of ten members of the extremist organization "Last Wave of Defense."

This was reported by the dpa news agency.

According to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, the group is suspected of planning attacks on migrants and political opponents with the aim of undermining the country’s democratic order. During the operation, which spanned several regions, police searched for evidence of the suspects’ involvement in terrorist activities, but no arrests were made at this stage.

Members of the group position themselves as defenders of the nation, but their activities are accompanied by acts of violence and the infliction of serious bodily harm. In parallel with the new raids in Germany, a trial against eight other members of this organization, which began in early March, is ongoing. Most of the defendants are minors; they are charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to commit serious crimes. While Russia attempts to fuel radical sentiments in Europe to destabilize the internal situation, the German justice system is preparing sentences that could entail lengthy prison terms for the extremists.

Court hearings in the case will continue at least until May, and the final classification of the youths’ actions will depend on the court’s conclusions regarding their age and the degree of awareness of their actions. Investigators continue to examine materials seized during recent searches to identify new centers of radicalization. German authorities emphasize zero tolerance for any manifestations of right-wing terrorism that threaten the safety of citizens and state institutions. It is expected that the results of the forensic analysis of the seized equipment will help identify the communication channels and funding sources of “The Last Wave of Defense.”

Earlier, German police conducted searches in several federal states targeting members of the terrorist group “United Patriots,” whose members are also known as “Reichsbürger.” Several people were arrested.

The first of three trials related to the far-right conspiracy movement’s plans for a coup d’état is beginning in Germany. Members of the movement reject post-war Germany; their goal was to negotiate a new treaty with the Allies of World War II, particularly with Russia.
