German military personnel are helping Poland secure its border with Russia
German military personnel, together with engineering units of the Polish Armed Forces, are carrying out work to strengthen the defensive infrastructure along Poland’s border with the Russian Federation—the aggressor state. The work is being conducted as part of Poland’s “Eastern Shield” program.
According to “Ukrainska Pravda,” citing “European Pravda” and the Polish General Staff, a Bundeswehr unit joined the efforts at Poland’s invitation. The troops are carrying out engineering tasks on NATO’s northeastern flank.
The Polish General Staff stated that the cooperation is a response to changes in the security situation following Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. They noted that the joint efforts are intended to enhance the combat readiness of the troops and strengthen the Alliance’s defense capabilities.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk posted a video of the work at the border and wrote that Polish and German soldiers are working together to fortify the border with Russia. Polish Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk called the joint construction of the “Eastern Shield” an example of NATO in action.
On July 21, the Polish Government’s National Security Committee discussed scenarios for a Russian operation under a false flag, including the possible use of drones disguised as Ukrainian ones. Leaders of NATO’s eastern flank countries have also publicly warned of likely Russian provocations on their territory, citing intelligence data.
