New paid parking signs in Abu Dhabi relate to a future update
Public parking operator Q Mobility said that new paid parking signs with individual district codes that have appeared in Abu Dhabi, UAE, relate to a future system update. For now, drivers do not need to change payment methods or the rules for using parking spaces.
As The National reports, the appearance of the signs sparked discussion among residents on social media. They suggested that new tariffs could be introduced in different districts of the capital. The update was also noticed by users of the Darb app, which displays separate parking zones in different parts of the city.
Current rules remain unchanged
Q Mobility stressed that the information on the new signs does not yet affect the parking process or available services. The company advised following its official channels, where it will announce changes after they take effect.
Abu Dhabi currently operates the Mawaqif system, under which the cost depends on the parking space category rather than the district. Standard parking, marked in black and turquoise, costs 2 dirhams per hour, with a maximum parking duration of 24 hours per session. Premium spaces with white and turquoise markings cost 3 dirhams per hour, with a four-hour parking limit.

If a vehicle is moved to another district or sector of Abu Dhabi, the paid parking ticket remains valid until it expires, provided that the rules for the relevant type and color of parking space are observed.
Development of the parking network
Q Mobility manages public parking facilities and the Darb road toll network. The company took over Mawaqif operations in 2024 under the supervision of Abu Dhabi Mobility and the Department of Municipalities and Transport. It is gradually expanding the paid parking system in different areas of the emirate.
In Musaffah, paid parking was introduced in three stages from January 2026 in sectors M1–M24, adding nearly 19,000 regulated spaces. In Mohammed bin Zayed City, the system was extended from late 2025 to sectors ME9–ME12 and adjacent villa areas. In Al Shahama, approximately 3,700 paid spaces are available, including spaces for people with disabilities.
Q Mobility also uses the AI-based Free Flow system in selected multi-storey and commercial parking facilities on Abu Dhabi Island and in Mohammed bin Zayed City. It deducts the fee directly from the Darb wallet. According to Q Mobility, tariffs, payment methods and parking duration will not change until the new system is launched.
