JYP's new group, OurBirthday, debuted with the whip-hop genre
JYP Entertainment’s new girl group, OurBirthday, made its full-lineup debut at a showcase in Seoul and introduced its own musical genre—whip-hop—according to the Korea Herald. The seven members performed their debut song “Squeezy” and a version of the pre-debut track “HUNGRY,” which had previously been released as separate performances by the Side A and Side B subunits.
OurBirthday’s lineup includes three members from South Korea, two from Japan, as well as members from Thailand and Taiwan. The showcase took place at Blue Square in the Yeongsan district of Seoul. This is the first girl group launched by JYP in four years since Nmixx. The group is managed by JYP’s subsidiary, Innit Entertainment.
The members described “whip-hop” as a genre that combines the individual traits of the seven artists with a strong hip-hop influence, creating a unique sound and atmosphere. Rapper Kook Chorok stated that the group’s strength lies in its energetic and distinctive performances. According to her, the group wants to blaze its own trail through this style and be remembered as OurBirthday.

Vocalist Shin Hye-won noted that OurBirthday’s music will not be limited to a single style. She said that “whip-hop” is a genre that only this group can create, while the members also plan to present music in other genres.
Some members were already familiar to viewers of TV competition shows. Leader Cho Hye-jin appeared on Mnet’s “Street Dance Girls Fighter 2” and later won the KBS competition show “The Ddanddara.” Member U previously participated in the SBS show “Universe Ticket” and placed third on “The Ddanddara,” while Shin appeared on the JTBC program “R U Next?”
