Norway’s new King Haakon VIII takes oath in parliament — YLE News
According to YLE News, Norway’s new King Haakon VIII took an oath of allegiance before the country’s parliament in Oslo on Tuesday. During the ceremony, he assured that he would rule Norway in accordance with the constitution and other laws.
Accession to the throne
Crown Prince Haakon became king on Friday following the death of his father, King Harald, in hospital. During the ceremony, the president of parliament read an official announcement about the monarch’s death and the new ruler’s accession to the throne.
Norway does not hold traditional coronations: parliament abolished them in 1908.

Mourning until the funeral
King Harald’s coffin was brought to the royal palace on Friday. It will be placed on display for viewing so that citizens can pay their final respects to the popular monarch.
Harald’s funeral is scheduled for next Wednesday, September 9. The mourning period in Norway will last until the day of the burial.
