Tiger Woods to appear in court to change not guilty plea
American golfer Tiger Woods is due to appear in a Florida court to change his previously entered not guilty plea in a case involving charges of driving under the influence. The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday and will begin at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time in the United States.
As Channel NewsAsia reports, citing court documents, Woods’ attorney Douglas Duncan filed a document with the Martin County court requesting that a hearing be scheduled to change the plea. The case will be heard by Judge Darren Steele. The documents do not specify what the golfer’s new plea will be.
Case circumstances
Woods had previously pleaded not guilty to charges of driving under the influence. They are connected to a March car crash in which his vehicle overturned.
According to the source, after the accident Woods told law enforcement officers that he had been looking at his phone and did not notice that the truck ahead had slowed down. No one was injured in the crash.

An affidavit establishing probable cause for arrest states that Woods had two hydrocodone pills in his pocket. Police also described his condition as lethargic and slowed, noting that he was sweating heavily and that his eyes were red and glassy, with significantly dilated pupils.
Treatment and achievements
Judge Steele had previously allowed Woods to travel outside the United States for treatment under supervised conditions. In a March statement, the athlete said he was taking a break to undergo treatment and focus on his health.
Woods has won 15 majors, trailing only Jack Nicklaus, who has 18 titles. He has also recorded 82 PGA Tour victories, tying Sam Snead’s record, and spent a record 683 weeks atop the world rankings.
