In Seoul, South Korea, Nepalis living in the country lit candles on Saturday afternoon during a memorial ceremony for the victims of the recent flash floods in Nepal. Participants in the event honored the memory of those killed.

Victims of the natural disaster

According to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, more than 1,200 people have died in the northern part of the country. More than 4,000 others are still considered missing.

The disaster occurred after a glacier collapse. Flash floods and mudflows caused by avalanches swept through the valleys of the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers near Nepal’s border with Tibet.

Infrastructure destruction

According to the Nepali authority, the disaster caused extensive destruction to settlements and infrastructure. The memorial ceremony in Seoul was reported by the Korea Herald, citing the Associated Press.
