Pakistan may have been secretly receiving Iranian military aircraft, according to CBS News
Pakistan, which has publicly positioned itself as a mediator between Iran and the United States, has reportedly secretly allowed Iranian military aircraft to be stationed on its territory. Such actions could provide Tehran with additional protection against potential U.S. strikes.
This was reported by CBS News.
According to U.S. officials, a few days after the announced ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran in early April, Tehran transferred several aircraft to the Pakistani airbase Nur Khan near Rawalpindi. Among them is an Iranian RC-130 reconnaissance aircraft, based on the C-130 Hercules transport plane.
It is also reported that Iran sent civilian aircraft to Afghanistan. One of Mahan Air’s planes landed in Kabul before hostilities began and was later moved to Herat Airport near the Iranian border.
The Pakistani side rejects these allegations, stating that it would be impossible to conceal a significant number of aircraft at the Nur Khan base, as it is located in a densely populated area.
The Taliban has also denied reports of Iranian aircraft being present on Afghan territory.
Analysts note that Pakistan is trying to balance between key players—the U.S., Iran, and China. Islamabad positions itself as a diplomatic mediator, but at the same time avoids steps that could worsen relations with Tehran or Beijing.
China, which supplies about 80% of Pakistan’s arms, publicly supports Pakistan’s role in indirect negotiations between the U.S. and Iran.
According to Iranian state media, Tehran’s latest proposal includes:
- payment of war reparations by the U.S.
- recognition of Iranian sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz
- the lifting of international sanctions
The situation remains tense, and diplomatic channels between the parties are unstable and private.
As a reminder, the American publication The Wall Street Journal reported that the United Arab Emirates had carried out covert strikes on Iranian territory.
U.S. President Donald Trump has failed to convince Americans of the necessity of a war with Iran. Most citizens stated that the White House has never explained the true objectives of the conflict, and the economic consequences of the hostilities have already seriously impacted the well-being of the population.
