Pakistan has outlined the conditions for the resumption of direct talks between the U.S. and Iran

Direct talks between the U.S. and Iran will not take place at this time, and discussions will continue remotely until a consensus is reached.

Sky News reports that a second round of in-person meetings cannot take place without prior alignment of positions.

Pakistani officials emphasized that the parties must come close enough to signing a memorandum of understanding before returning to the negotiating table. Work on a draft long-term peace agreement continues, but the lack of common ground on key issues is forcing mediators to rely on remote communication channels.

Today, President Donald Trump plans to hold a meeting with his national security team to discuss the impasse in the dialogue and the future strategy regarding Iran. The situation is complicated by global challenges and Russia’s destabilizing role in regional conflicts. Pakistan’s mediation efforts are aimed at preventing further escalation and finding compromise solutions amid high tensions. Earlier, the U.S. side canceled its representatives’ trip to the planned meetings, indicating serious differences in the assessment of security risks. Iran, for its part, continues to insist on the fulfillment of certain demands before resuming direct contact.

The day before, U.S. President Donald Trump canceled the U.S. delegation’s visit to Pakistan, where talks with Iran were to take place.

Prior to this, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran has repeatedly violated the ceasefire since its implementation between Washington and Tehran. According to Trump, there have been numerous incidents that cast doubt on Iran’s compliance with the ceasefire agreements.

On the eve of a possible resumption of direct talks between the U.S. and Iran in Pakistan, Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Roger Wicker publicly called on President Donald Trump to continue strikes against Tehran.
