Pakistan has resumed military operations in Afghanistan following the ceasefire

Pakistan has resumed military operations in Afghanistan following the end of a temporary ceasefire agreed upon for the Muslim holiday of Eid. The fighting has already resulted in numerous casualties.

Tahir Andrabi, a spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced the continuation of the operation, according to Bloomberg.

According to him, military operations will continue until the set objectives are achieved.

Pakistan insists that the Taliban government must stop the activities of militants who are allegedly carrying out attacks from Afghan territory.

A temporary ceasefire was in effect from March 19 to 24, brokered by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey. It was announced following a series of airstrikes that sparked international concern.

According to reports, one of the strikes on Kabul resulted in the deaths of about 400 people, in part due to an attack on a medical facility. At the same time, the Pakistani side denies these claims, stating that the targets were militant hideouts.

According to estimates, since the escalation began in February, Pakistan has struck 81 targets in Afghanistan, and the death toll has exceeded 700.

Taliban representatives report that fighting on the border resumed immediately after the ceasefire ended. The new clashes have already resulted in casualties.

The situation remains tense, and the risks of further escalation of the conflict in the region are growing.

As a reminder, the governments of Islamabad and Kabul agreed to suspend hostilities from Thursday through Monday to mark the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Fitr.
