A solemn Easter Mass was held at the Vatican, presided over by Pope Leo XIV.
This was reported by Reuters.
During the service at St. Peter’s Basilica, the pontiff addressed millions of believers, urging them not to succumb to fear and despondency due to the large-scale conflicts engulfing the planet, but to actively work toward restoring the severed ties between nations.
During Saturday evening’s service, Pope Leo XIV baptized 10 new converts and delivered a sermon focused on overcoming isolation.
The pontiff emphasized the importance of spiritual resilience in times of global instability and called on Christians to be messengers of peace in their communities.
“Let us not allow ourselves to be paralyzed!” Pope Leo XIV urged during the service on the holiest night of the Catholic calendar, when, according to the Bible, Jesus rose from the dead.
He emphasized that faith must become the driving force for overcoming indifference.
The Pope noted that mistrust and fear have allowed war to sever the bonds between people and nations. Leo XIV called on people to follow the example of those who fought for justice so that the gifts of harmony might flourish everywhere.
Although no specific countries were mentioned in the sermon, Pope Leo XIV has recently become one of the most vocal critics of the war in Iran and has repeatedly mentioned Ukraine in his statements.
Pope Leo XIV strongly condemned the war and addressed world leaders.
Earlier, Pope Leo had strongly condemned the airstrikes, calling them uncontrolled and something that should be banned. He repeated his call for an end to the war and emphasized a humanistic approach.
During his weekly audience in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Leo XIV appealed to the international community to stop the bloodshed in Iran and Lebanon.
