Norway’s FOR party to join October 7 rally in Oslo — Jerusalem Post

Norway’s Peace and Justice party (FOR) and its youth wing are set to take part in a rally in Oslo scheduled for October 7. The event is organized by the activist group Solidarity Network Oslo, and its slogan calls for support for Palestinian resistance, the Jerusalem Post reports.

Among the organizations associated with the event, the publication names the Lebanese Association in Norway, FOR, FOR Youth, Resistencia Intifada, Resistencia Oslo, Student Intifada and Young Communists.

According to the Jerusalem Post’s description, the rally’s promotional materials used an image of Hamas members and other Palestinian militants on a tank after breaching the defensive barrier around the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023. The publication writes that FOR is taking part in a demonstration in support of Hamas, Iran and Hezbollah.

Statements by the FOR leader

FOR leader Marielle Leraand wrote in a Facebook post that, in her view, the entire Norwegian parliament repeats a false media narrative about the possibility of considering Israel a victim of a Hamas attack. She also called Israel, the United States and NATO states, including Norway, the “real terrorists” and expressed support for the Palestinians’ struggle.

In an interview with Filter Nyheter published the previous day, Leraand called the events of October 7 a counterattack against a genocide that, according to her, was already underway. The Jerusalem Post also notes that she had previously refused to condemn Hamas and Hezbollah and described the struggle of Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran as legitimate resistance.

According to Aftenposten, the youth organization Oslo Socialist Youth was initially involved in the event but later decided to withdraw from it. Leraand founded FOR in 2023; she previously served as deputy leader of the left-wing party Rødt. The party presents itself as an anti-war, anti-imperialist and peace movement.
