Beijing ranks fifth in talent retention index — ECNS
Beijing, China, ranked fifth in the 2026 Global City Talent Retention Index and has remained in the top 10 of the ranking for the seventh consecutive year. ECNS reports, citing a report released in the Chinese capital on Monday.
Ranking leaders
New York took first place in the index. It was followed by London, San Francisco and Paris. Shanghai ranked ninth.

The study covered 130 cities in 47 countries. They were assessed across six areas: economic fundamentals, innovation dynamism, cultural openness, environmental conditions, social well-being and public life.
Innovation dynamism
The report was jointly released by the Beijing Institute of Talent Development Strategy and Springer Nature. Beijing ranked first in innovation dynamism. The report attributed this to the city’s substantial scientific achievements, concentration of leading scientists and presence of world-class research institutions.
