French source explains translation of Macron’s words about Hamas — Jerusalem Post

A French diplomatic source told The Jerusalem Post on September 23, 2026, that French President Emmanuel Macron’s words about Hamas activity in the West Bank may have been translated with an incorrect meaning. The statement came after the French leader’s speech at the UN General Assembly in New York, United States.

Explanation from the French source

According to the publication’s interlocutor, Macron’s phrase le Hamas n'a jamais sévi en Cisjordanie was translated as a claim that Hamas had never been particularly active. At the same time, the diplomatic source maintains that the president’s wording meant that Hamas had never governed the West Bank.
