Beijing bans mainland earnings for 'Taiwanese separatists'
Zhen Binghua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of the PRC, stated that Beijing will under no circumstances permit supporters of "Taiwanese independence" and their relatives to invest and profit on mainland China.
This statement was prompted by Hong Kong media reports that relatives of Liu Shigan, head of Taiwan’s Ministry of the Interior, had invested in mainland projects and made political donations. Zhen noted that relevant authorities are investigating the matter "in accordance with laws and regulations." In January, China imposed personal sanctions on Liu.
The official emphasised that "Taiwan independence is a dead-end path" and warned of "severe punishment" for those who support "Taiwanese separatism" and threaten stability across the Taiwan Strait.
