Peter Magyar announced a meeting with Zelensky

Hungary’s incoming Prime Minister Péter Magyar has stated his intention to establish friendly relations with all neighboring countries, emphasizing the need to resolve the issue of the rights of the Hungarian community in Ukraine.

He made these remarks during a press conference on Monday, April 13. The politician emphasized that it is in Budapest’s interest to resolve all disputes with Kyiv, Slovakia, Serbia, and Austria to foster good neighborly relations.

Mátyás noted that about 100,000 Hungarians still live in Transcarpathia, despite a significant decline in their numbers in recent years. He accused Viktor Orbán’s government of exploiting existing disputes for its own partisan and political purposes, which has complicated interstate dialogue. The new head of government views these unresolved issues as a legacy of the previous regime, which must be overcome through pragmatic diplomacy.

Separately, Péter Magyar reported receiving congratulations from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and expressed confidence that a personal meeting would take place in the near future. Currently, the Hungarian government is preparing to change the format of its engagement with Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. Further progress in relations will depend on both sides’ willingness to compromise on humanitarian issues.

Péter Magyar, leader of the Hungarian Tisza Party, stated that Russia poses a threat to his country’s security.

Mátyás called on Orbán’s puppets to resign.
