The suspect in the Trump assassination attempt said he was targeting White House officials
Authorities in the U.S. have identified the suspect in the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump. He is 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen of Torrance, California.
The man has no criminal record and had not previously been on the radar of law enforcement agencies.
According to police, the suspect may have been a guest at the Washington Hilton, where the correspondents’ dinner was taking place.
Following the incident, Donald Trump referred to the attacker as a “lone wolf killer” during a press conference.
“A lone wolf killer,” Trump said, commenting on the incident.

Meanwhile, Cole Thomas Allen told law enforcement officials after his arrest that his targets were Trump administration officials, CBS News reports, citing two sources.
It is also noted that at least five to eight shots were fired during the incident.
Prior to this, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that law enforcement had detained the shooter following a shooting incident during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, in which he was participating.
The day before, U.S. President Donald Trump canceled a visit by an American delegation to Pakistan, where talks with Iran were to take place.
