The suspects in the attack on a Ukrainian couple in Wrocław face up to five years in prison
Those detained in connection with the assault on a Ukrainian couple in Wrocław, Poland, could face up to five years in prison. Law enforcement officials are already conducting the necessary investigative procedures, and the court will determine the final legal classification of the suspects’ actions.
Jakub Dłubacz, a spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Wrocław, provided this information in a comment to a Ukrinform correspondent.
“Today, the two detainees will be questioned at the Wrocław-Psie Pole District Prosecutor’s Office, where charges will be filed against them and the prosecutor will decide on further action in this case… They face up to five years in prison,” said Dłubacz.
According to him, the detainees are charged with crimes under Articles 158 (assault) and 119 (violence motivated by national intolerance) of the Polish Criminal Code. Both articles carry a sentence of up to five years in prison.
The spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office also noted that a third person who participated in the assault on the Ukrainian couple has not yet been detained.
“The police are currently working to apprehend him,” the prosecutor added, according to Ukrinform.
Earlier, Polish police stated that the attack on the Ukrainians in Wrocław may have been ethnically motivated.
As a reminder, a Ukrainian couple was brutally beaten in Wrocław, Poland. According to the victim’s mother, the attack occurred after the assailants heard Ukrainian being spoken in a store. Both victims sustained serious injuries; medical professionals suspect they may have suffered concussions.
The Ukrainian Consulate has asked Polish authorities to urgently locate the attackers who assaulted the Ukrainians in Wrocław.
