Peskov responded to the EU sanctions against the Max messaging app and accused Brussels of repression

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, criticized the European Union’s sanctions imposed against the Russian state-run messaging app Max. He called Brussels’ decision “absurd” and claimed that it allegedly reflects the “repressive” approach of European authorities.

The day before, the EU added the VK holding company and its subsidiary “Communication Platform,” which operates the Max messaging app, to its sanctions list. The European Union stated that the service was created under the control of the FSB and could be used to monitor users and collect their data without their knowledge.

Brussels also noted that the promotion of Max in Russia was accompanied by restrictions on access to independent platforms, including WhatsApp and Telegram. Furthermore, the EU accuses VK of collaborating with Russian authorities, censorship, transferring user data, and cracking down on VPN services that provide access to independent sources of information.

This is according to reports in the Russian media.

Peskov stated that Trump did not call Putin after the talks in Ankara.

In Russia, a military officer who threatened Putin with a mutiny was released from custody.

Russian military officer Lunin, who had appealed to Putin, was raided at his home.

Earlier, the Kremlin responded to the war veteran’s threats to stage a mutiny against Putin.

Prior to this, Lunin had told Putin about violations within the Russian military.
