The peak of the Eta Aquarid meteor shower is expected on the night of May 6
The peak activity of the Eta Aquarid meteor shower is expected on the night of May 5–6. During this time, observers will be able to witness one of the most spectacular astronomical events—a meteor shower.
This is reported by Space.com.
This year, the Eta Aquarid meteor shower is active from April 19 to May 28, with its peak occurring on the night of May 5–6.
The best time to observe the shower will be before dawn on May 6, when its radiant reaches its highest point in the sky.
The pieces of space debris that make up the Eta Aquarids originate from the celestial object known as Halley’s Comet.
According to the American Meteor Society, the maximum rate of shooting stars in a clear sky will be about 50 per hour.
These fast meteors travel across the sky at a speed of about 66 kilometers per second.
It is noted that meteor showers are named after the constellation from which the meteors likely originate. From Earth’s perspective, the Eta Aquarids appear to originate from the constellation Aquarius.

As a reminder, the largest U.S. aircraft carrier will leave the Middle East following a fire on board.
The fire broke out in the main laundry room of the USS Gerald Ford on Thursday.
The U.S. also denies the strike on the aircraft carrier that Iran is claiming.
