U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hagset stated that the United States will support those allies who strengthen their own defenses. At the same time, he warned that partners who fail to meet these requirements may face consequences.

He made these remarks during a speech before Congress on Wednesday, April 29, according to Bloomberg.

Hegset highlighted a number of countries he called “model allies” and which, he said, would receive “special support” from the U.S.

He added Israel, South Korea, Poland, Finland, and the Baltic states to the list.

"Allies who do not do this—allies who still do not fulfill their share of collective defense obligations—will face consequences," Hegset warned.

Hegsetspoke about the sinking of an Iranian warship by a U.S. submarine.
