Pistorius warned of a threat to Germany due to social division
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that one of the main threats to the country’s security is increasing polarization and the loss of social cohesion.
According to him, national security depends not only on the military, but also on the resilience of society, the economy, and state institutions. He emphasized that the country cannot be defensible if citizens do not trust one another and are not prepared to act together.
Pistorius also warned against postponing important decisions in the areas of pensions, infrastructure, education, climate policy, and security. In his view, only timely resolution of these issues can guarantee stability in the future.
As an example of effective preparation for challenges, he cited Finland, which has about 900,000 reservists and a well-developed network of shelters capable of protecting the majority of the country’s population.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius called for an increased presence of the Bundeswehr, as well as the armed forces of other European NATO member states, in the Arctic region. He attributed this to U.S. territorial claims on Greenland, as well as growing security challenges from Russia and China.
