South Korean Chunmoo missile systems to bolster Estonia's air defense — ERR

Estonia has officially expanded its order for modern South Korean Chunmoo multiple launch rocket systems by signing a contract for the delivery of three additional units.

This was reported by ERR.

Thanks to this agreement, the total number of launchers to be deployed by the country’s defense forces has increased from six to nine systems.

The new agreement is a logical extension of the base contract that the parties signed at the end of 2025.

The initial framework agreement was valued at €290 million and included six launchers, a wide range of ammunition, and a personnel training program.

An important part of the cooperation with the South Korean company Hanwha Aerospace involves offset obligations regarding investments in local production.

The manufacturer has committed to directing 20% of the total contract value directly into the Estonian defense industry.

Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur praised the results of the negotiations, calling the agreement a “significant strengthening of the capabilities” of the national army.

He also emphasized that cooperation with the Republic of Korea has long gone beyond the purely military sphere.

The Chunmoo system is a highly mobile 8x8 wheeled vehicle that enables rapid deployment and repositioning. It is capable of using guided missiles to accurately strike targets at ranges of up to 80 kilometers.

Of particular value to the Estonian Army are the CTM-290 long-range missiles included in the delivery package.

These munitions allow for the destruction of enemy strategic targets at ranges of up to 290 kilometers, significantly expanding the area of control.

The use of such technologies allows the small Baltic countries to create an effective deterrent against potential threats.

In addition to the launchers themselves, Estonia is receiving three different types of missiles to carry out a wide range of combat missions.
