The baby elephants given to Putin have arrived in Russia
Two baby elephants, a gift to Russia from Laotian President Thongloun Sisoulith, arrived in Kazan on the eve of the Russia–ASEAN summit. Rustam Minnikhanov, the head of Tatarstan, announced the arrival of the animals.
The new arrivals were greeted at the airport by local officials, including Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin. The calves are set to be housed at the Zambezi River Zoo, which opened in 2019 and is one of the newest in Russia.
The gift was handed over to the Russian side in early June. In Laos, the elephant is considered one of the national symbols and embodies strength, well-being, and prosperity.
