Nigel Farage's conduct will be investigated over a £5 million gift from a crypto billionaire

The UK Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards will launch an investigation into Reform UK leader Nigel Farage over a £5 million gift he received prior to his election to Parliament.

This was reported by Sky News.

According to journalists, the money was provided to the politician by British crypto-billionaire Christopher Garborn, who resides in Thailand.

The funds were transferred in early 2024—even before Farage officially announced his intention to run for the UK Parliament.

Farage subsequently won the parliamentary election in the Clacton constituency during the general election in July 2024.

British parliamentary rules require candidates to declare income received within 12 months prior to the election.

At the same time, Farage and his party have repeatedly stated that the politician did not violate the law.

According to their version, the funds were specifically a gift, so the money is not considered a political contribution and did not need to be declared.

Farage himself previously explained that the funds received are used to ensure his personal security.

The right-wing populist Reform UK party, led by Nigel Farage, is leading in the preliminary results of the local elections in the UK.

On Thursday, May 7, a large-scale vote began in the UK. Millions of voters are participating in local elections in England, as well as electing members to the parliaments of Scotland and Wales.

As a reminder, the UK will join forces with its European partners to develop wind energy.
