Israeli police say they solved murder in Caesarea — Jerusalem Post

Israeli police said they had solved the murder of 41-year-old Yanis Yushaev from Or Akiva, who was shot at a gas station in Caesarea. The main suspect in the case is 54-year-old Doron Weizman, a resident of Hatzon. A prosecutor's declaration preceding the filing of charges has been submitted against him, The Jerusalem Post reports.

Murder investigation

The investigation began on August 23 after a report of a shooting at the gas station. Medics who arrived at the scene pronounced Yushaev dead.

According to police, several enemies of the victim may have joined forces and planned his murder. Four people were detained as part of the investigation, including a 23-year-old resident of Hadera, the son of Yushaev's most prominent rival.

Police said that this man, who they say has ties to high-ranking criminals, was in the vehicle used by the attackers. DNA samples belonging to him were also found in the vehicle. At the same time, investigators were unable to prove his direct involvement in planning the murder.

Status of the suspect

Law enforcement officers said technological, intelligence and forensic tools were used during the investigation. All other detainees were released, while Weizman, whom police suspect of firing the shot, remains in custody: the court periodically extended his detention.

During questioning, Weizman exercised his right to remain silent. His lawyer, Yaron Shomron, told Walla that he would comment on the case after reviewing the indictment. The Haifa District Prosecutor's Office, which oversaw the investigation, is expected to file charges in the coming days and request that the suspect remain in custody until the end of the trial.
