Police ask for suspected gang rape suspects to be added to PNIL — Dawn

Police in Lahore, Pakistan, have asked federal authorities to add the names of three main suspects in the alleged gang rape of a 20-year-old foreign woman to the Provisional National Identification List (PNIL). According to Dawn, law enforcement officers have identified all three men and are searching for them.

Case circumstances

According to police, the victim came to Pakistan on business. Law enforcement officers said that three men allegedly raped her in a rented apartment in a private housing complex near Raiwind on the night from Friday to Saturday.

A police representative said that the suspects left Lahore after the alleged attack. Law enforcement officers tracked the location of one of them to the city of Sialkot. Police also detained two close relatives and a domestic worker of one of the main suspects.

Search for the suspects

Deputy Inspector General of Police for Operations Faisal Kamran said that the investigation is being jointly conducted by the Crime Control Department, operational and investigative units. According to him, police seized a vehicle that was allegedly used during the incident.

The joint law enforcement team in the case is led by Asim Iftikhar, head of the investigation unit of the Cantonment Division. Dawn notes that this is the second reported case of an alleged gang rape of a foreign woman in the Defence C police station area over the past four months.
