Poland has received a new shipment of Abrams tanks
Poland has received another batch of American M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams main battle tanks. This time, 35 tanks arrived in the country. The total number of tanks of this model delivered to the Polish Army has reached 217 out of the 250 ordered.
Polish Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced the new delivery.
The M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams tanks are manufactured by the American company General Dynamics Land Systems.
The Ukrainian military news site “Military” also reported on the delivery. According to the site, the American manufacturer has already delivered 217 of the 250 ordered tanks to Poland.
Thus, 33 more tanks remain to be delivered to fully fulfill the contract. They are expected to arrive in Poland in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams is not the only variant of the American tank in service with the Polish Army. As of 2024, Poland had 116 M1A1 Abrams tanks.
These vehicles were previously used by the U.S. Army. Their acquisition allowed Poland to more quickly reinforce its own armored forces after transferring some of its equipment to Ukraine.
Poland transferred several hundred post-Soviet tanks to Ukraine, as well as PT-91 Twardy and Leopard combat vehicles. The used M1A1 Abrams tanks became one way to compensate for the corresponding losses suffered by the Polish Army.
Once the delivery of all 250 new M1A2 SEPv3 tanks is complete, the Polish Army will have a total of 366 Abrams tanks: 250 of the more modern version and 116 older M1A1s.
The M1 Abrams has been the U.S. Army’s main battle tank in various configurations since the 1980s. Vehicles of this family were first deployed on a large scale in combat against Iraqi forces during Operation Desert Storm in 1991.
The M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams is equipped with a 120-mm M256 smoothbore gun capable of firing various types of ammunition, including programmable rounds.
Compared to older versions of the M1A2, the tank features an improved fire control system with a thermal imaging device. In addition, the Abrams can use the CROWS remotely operated combat module equipped with a 12.7-mm large-caliber machine gun.
Another key feature of the M1A2 SEPv3 is its auxiliary power unit. It enables the tank’s electronic and other systems to be powered without the need for continuous operation of the main AGT1500C gas turbine engine, rated at 1,500 horsepower.

Previously, American M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams tanks were transferred to Poland’s 1st Warsaw Tank Brigade, according to a press release from the country’s Ministry of Defense.
The Polish Ministry of Defense has signed an official contract with the American corporation Honeywell to build a unique service center where licensed maintenance and repairs of AGT1500 engines for the M1 Abrams family of armored vehicles will be carried out. The new strategic military infrastructure facility will be established at a site in Dęblin, and its production facilities are scheduled to begin operations in 2028, with the capacity to perform major overhauls on several dozen power units annually.
