Brunei and Singapore sign memorandum on port development — Channel NewsAsia

In Singapore, Brunei and Singapore signed a memorandum of understanding on further cooperation in maritime and port development. The document was signed on the sidelines of the 12th Singapore-Brunei Young Leaders’ Programme, Channel NewsAsia reports, citing Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Meetings with Singapore’s leaders

Brunei Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah, who is also Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office of Brunei, met on September 29 with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong, and Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

According to Singapore’s foreign ministry, the sides discussed global developments of mutual interest as well as opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation in areas that could create opportunities for businesses and people in both countries.

Five-day visit

The prince arrived in Singapore on Monday for a five-day visit to take part in the young leaders’ programme. It has been held annually since 2013 to strengthen ties between the next generations of leaders of the two states.

The sides also reaffirmed their intention to strengthen their special bilateral relationship ahead of the 60th anniversary of the Currency Interchangeability Agreement, which will be marked next year. During the visit, Al-Muhtadee Billah has already visited Tuas Port and is also expected to visit the Singapore Oceanarium, SAFTI City, Sultan Mosque, the Malay Heritage Centre, Temasek Shophouse, the SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute for Biodiversity Medicine, Punggol Digital District, and the Singapore Institute of Technology.
