Ghana and the Philippines agree to expand trade and labour mobility — MyJoyOnline

In New York, United States, Ghana and the Philippines agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment and labour mobility. The agreements were reached during a meeting between Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma Theresa P. Lazaro on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

Business forums and chamber of commerce

The parties agreed to organise business forums in Ghana and the Philippines. Their goal will be to establish contacts between companies from the two countries and promote investment opportunities.

Representatives of the countries also discussed the creation of a Ghana–Philippines Chamber of Commerce. It is intended to become a platform for ongoing interaction between the private sectors of the two countries, MyJoyOnline reports.

Embassy and exchange of experience

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa welcomed the Philippines’ decision to open an embassy in Ghana later this year. He called the move important for the long-standing bilateral relations between the countries.

Labour mobility was a separate topic of the talks. Ghana and the Philippines agreed to exchange ideas and experience on agreements in this area.
