Poland has provided Ukraine with new sites for the search and exhumation of graves
Ukraine and Poland are agreeing on further search and exhumation efforts on Ukrainian territory. During a meeting of the Ukrainian-Polish Working Group in Lviv, the Polish side provided a new list of sites where such activities could be carried out.
Representatives of the two countries discussed the issue of properly honoring the graves and further cooperation in this area.
The information received should help identify priority areas for search operations, locating burial sites, and properly honoring the deceased.
On Wednesday, August 5, Ukraine and Poland reviewed the implementation of the agreements reached during the previous meeting of the working group on December 16 in Warsaw.
The parties noted that Ukraine had issued all the permits agreed upon during that meeting and emphasized the success of the work carried out at the agreed-upon sites on Ukrainian territory.
Poland also provided Ukraine with a list of sites for further work, for which applications have been submitted or will be submitted in the near future.
In addition, the working group participants discussed issues related to the practical implementation of search and exhumation operations on the territories of Ukraine and Poland.
Exhumations are currently underway in Ukraine in the villages of Ostrivky and Volia Ostrovetska. The next exhumations will most likely take place next year in Huta Peniatska, where a mass grave was discovered in June.
Last year, after a hiatus of several years, Ukraine resumed search operations and exhumations of Polish victims on its territory. Since then, the remains of victims of the tragic events of the 20th century in Puzhnyky, as well as the remains of Polish soldiers who died during the September 1939 campaign, have been exhumed and reburied.
