Poland has extended border controls with Germany and Lithuania through October

Poland has extended border controls with Germany and Lithuania through October

The Ministry of the Interior and Administration of the Republic of Poland has decided to further restrict the free movement across the state border with neighboring EU countries.

Border controls on the borders with Germany and Lithuania have been officially extended until October 1, 2026.

According to an official statement from the ministry, the special inspection regime will remain in effect continuously, starting April 5.

This decision is part of the Polish government’s comprehensive strategy aimed at strengthening national resilience in the face of current challenges.

The Polish authorities cite the urgent need to effectively counter illegal migration as the main reason for this step.

Enhanced controls allow for the rapid identification of violators and the blocking of channels for illegal border crossings, which directly impacts the country’s internal security.

Maintaining law and order in designated areas is entrusted to mobile units of the Border Guard, which work in close cooperation with the police.

Units of the Polish Territorial Defense Forces are also involved in patrolling and securing strategic areas.

The Polish Ministry of the Interior emphasizes that these measures are necessary and driven by the complex security situation in the region.

The authorities aim to minimize the risk of infiltration by suspicious individuals who may be involved in destabilizing the internal situation in the country.

Controls will be conducted selectively, though an increased security presence is expected on major transportation routes.

As a reminder, Poland will not participate in the mission in the Strait of Hormuz.

Poland has refused to transfer Patriot systems to the Middle East.
