Poland is asking the European Parliament to authorize the arrest of an anti-Ukrainian MEP

Polish Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek has appealed to European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, requesting her consent to the arrest and compulsory transfer of Member of the European Parliament Grzegorz Braun to the prosecutor’s office.

During an investigation by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Wrocław, sufficient evidence was gathered to substantiate suspicions that Braun committed a series of crimes, including unlawful deprivation of liberty, defamation, insulting public officials, property damage, use of violence against a public official, and incitement to hatred.

This was reported by Anna Adamyak, a spokesperson for the General Prosecutor’s Office. Back in June 2025, the Prosecutor General appealed to the European Parliament to hold the politician accountable, and in November of that year, the European Parliament lifted his immunity. However, according to the investigation, despite five summonses, Brown’s interrogation never took place.

The prosecutor’s office claims that Brown and his defense attorney left the venue of the investigative proceedings without the prosecutor’s permission or failed to return after announced recesses. Investigators view these actions as a deliberate attempt to drag out the investigation and use his European Parliament status to evade criminal liability.

Since MEPs enjoy the same immunity from arrest as members of the Polish Sejm, a separate decision by the European Parliament is required for their compulsory appearance. The politician’s behavior demonstrates disregard for procedural obligations and violates the principle of equality before the law.

This was reported by the Polish Prosecutor General’s Office.

Earlier, the European Parliament voted to lift the parliamentary immunity of the controversial Polish MEP Grzegorz Braun.

One of the cases concerns the events of April 16, 2025, when Braun—then a candidate in the first round of the presidential election—attempted to carry out a “citizen’s arrest” of a gynecologist at a hospital in Olesnica.

Another case concerns Braun’s campaign rally on April 30 in Biała Podlaska, during which the Ukrainian flag was removed from the city council building. In 2024, Grzegorz Brown tore down the Ukrainian flag from the flagpole on the Kosciuszko Mound in Kraków.
