North Korean officials honor Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il in Pyongyang
Senior party and government officials of North Korea visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun in Pyongyang to honor the state’s founder Kim Il Sung and his son Kim Jong Il on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the country’s founding. The Korea Herald reports, citing the Korean Central News Agency.
Visit to the mausoleum
The visit took place on the eve of the anniversary of North Korea’s founding. The embalmed bodies of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il are kept at the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun.
According to North Korea’s state agency, the ceremony’s participants bowed deeply to the late leaders. They also stated their intention to work more actively for the dignity and prosperity of the state and the well-being of the people.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un did not personally take part in the visit. However, a flower basket from him was placed near the statues of the two late leaders, the report said.
Other events
On the same day, labor innovators and distinguished individuals were invited to the celebrations and also paid tribute to the former state leaders. Separately, senior officials, including Prime Minister Pak Thae Song and Workers’ Party of Korea Central Committee Secretary Jo Yong Won, visited national cemeteries.
