The Estonian ambassador dismissed the possibility of a Russian invasion of Narva

The Estonian ambassador dismissed the possibility of a Russian invasion of Narva

Estonia’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Anneli Kolk, stated that reports of an alleged threat of a Russian invasion of the border town of Narva are part of the Kremlin’s information campaign.

She said this in an interview.

According to her, narratives about the so-called “Narva People’s Republic” have been used for years in attempts to divide Estonian society.

Kolk emphasized that Narva is just as much an Estonian city as any other, despite its proximity to the border with Russia.

She also emphasized that Estonia is a member of NATO and the European Union, so such statements should be viewed in a broader context—as part of the threats to the entire Alliance.

According to the diplomat, Narva has a Russian-speaking population, but this situation is typical for countries that have experienced Soviet occupation. At the same time, the city’s demographic structure is gradually changing—more Estonians are moving there, and educational and cultural infrastructure is developing.

Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur also stated that the country is prepared to host additional U.S. troops if necessary.

Estonia has developed a new defense plan in case of a complete blockade, under which the country must be able to survive for up to 30 days without external assistance. The government is also changing its approach to defense, allowing strikes on enemy territory. The main goal is to prevent hostilities from taking place on its own soil.
