The Embassy of the Russian Federation, an aggressor state, in Romania said it had received a notification from the Romanian prosecutor’s office about the detention of a Russian citizen. According to Anadolu Agency, the man, who has a residence permit in Romania, was arrested for 30 days on Tuesday on suspicion of attempting to commit sabotage in the country.
Suspicion of gathering information
According to the embassy, Romanian media, citing the state security service and other law enforcement agencies, reported that the Russian citizen is suspected of collecting military information. According to this version, he took photographs and videos of sensitive sites in order to organize acts of sabotage and subversive activities.

Embassy’s position
The Russian diplomatic mission described the published materials as assumptions, speculation, and fantasies. It said they contained no specific data indicating the unlawfulness of the citizen’s actions or the involvement of Russian state bodies.
The embassy said it is monitoring developments in the case and is ready to provide the man with consular and legal support. The diplomatic mission also said that a request to meet with the detainee had been sent to the Romanian authorities.
