Floods in Nepal: 53 Ukrainians are missing
As a result of massive flooding on the border between Nepal and Tibet, 53 Ukrainian citizens are considered missing. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported this, citing data from the Nepal Tourism Police.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received a report regarding the loss of contact with a group of 46 Ukrainian tourists who were in the disaster zone. Ukrainian embassies in India and China are coordinating with local authorities and participating in search and rescue efforts. At this time, there is no information regarding Ukrainians among the dead or injured.
Relatives of eight citizens with whom contact has been lost have also reached out to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ hotline. The search for Ukrainians is ongoing, and Ukraine’s Honorary Consul in Nepal has been involved in the efforts.
What is known
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs received a report this morning regarding the loss of contact with a group of tourists—46 Ukrainian citizens—in the disaster zone. In total, according to the Nepal Tourism Police, 53 Ukrainian citizens are currently considered missing as a result of the disaster,” the ministry stated.
The Ukrainian embassies in India and China are in contact with the relevant authorities in those countries regarding search operations that could help locate the Ukrainian citizens.
There is no confirmed information regarding fatalities
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that, as of now, there is no information regarding the presence of Ukrainian citizens among the dead or injured.
On the personal instructions of Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga, the Ukrainian embassies in India and China are taking steps to establish contact with the missing citizens and carry out other necessary actions based on the personal data already available.
In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ “hotline” has received eight reports from relatives regarding the loss of contact with individuals on the aforementioned list. The Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Nepal has also been engaged on the ground.
