A fire broke out at the Severstal steel mill in Cherepovets, Russia

A fire broke out at the Severstal Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant in Russia.

This was reported by Cherepovets Mayor Andrei Nakroshaev.

According to him, the fire initially covered an area of about 100 square meters. The plant stated that barrels containing benzene and lubricating oil had caught fire. The fire subsequently spread to cover an area of 300 square meters.

The Civil Protection and Emergency Response Center clarified that the fire reportedly started in the coke production facility, specifically in a tube furnace.

About 40 people were involved in extinguishing the fire. There are no reported casualties.

The Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant is one of the key enterprises in the Russian metallurgical industry and a supplier of special steels to the Russian Federation’s defense-industrial complex.

In Russia, 13 airports were temporarily shut down following a drone attack on the administrative building of the Southern Russia Air Navigation branch.

On the night of May 8, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin posted a series of messages on the Telegram social media platform. He documented the aftermath of the attack by Ukrainian drones.

The Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez oil refinery in Perm came under attack again on May 8. This is the third attack in recent days on a strategic facility of the Russian oil refining industry, located more than 1,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
