Albania's prime minister called the protesters against a resort linked to Kushner "fools"

Albania's prime minister called the protesters against a resort linked to Kushner "fools"

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on Sunday sharply criticized the large-scale protest movement known as the “Flamingo Revolution, whose participants are demanding his immediate resignation.

The head of government compared the protesters’ actions to Nazi Germany and called the demonstrators themselves “hayvani”—a derogatory Albanian term meaning “as stupid as animals” or “uncivilized people.”

Despite the official’s harsh statements, mass political unrest in the country continues to gain momentum, drawing hundreds of thousands of citizens.

The Albanian leader’s sharp remarks were made during a broadcast of his podcast, where he offered a clear assessment of the events in the capital.

The prime minister expressed his conviction that the actions of opposition-minded citizens are purely destructive in nature and threaten the democratic order of the state.

“This is fascism, this is a scandal, and it must be stopped,” Rama said during his podcast on Sunday.

He also emphasized the steadfastness of his position in the face of massive pressure from the streets.

“And this can be stopped without yielding to such pressure and such ‘scum,’” he added.

The politician’s remarks came amid serious political unrest that has been ongoing in Albania for 14 consecutive days. Over the weekend, Albanians flooded the streets of Tirana en masse as part of the largest demonstration to date in the entire conflict.

According to preliminary estimates by observers, between 100,000 and 200,000 people took part in Saturday’s protest.

Despite the large concentration of dissatisfied citizens, the rally remained entirely peaceful: children, the elderly, and entire families participated, and the organizers even set up a special area for the youngest participants to draw and color.

During his speech, Edi Rama harshly criticized the protesters’ key slogans and philosophy, drawing historical parallels with the totalitarian regimes of the last century. Rama called the protests a “fascist spirit” that preaches the idea that Albania belongs to Albanians.

According to the head of government, such nationalist narratives are unacceptable for a modern European country.

Such rhetoric, “which implies that everyone else who does not belong to this circle is unwelcome—just as Germany was ‘for the Germans’ and then became the ‘black sheep’ of Europe for many years,” he added.

This was reported by Politico.

The Rada ratified an agreement on long-term cooperation with Albania

As a reminder, Ukraine continues to actively work with the United States at all levels—from the White House to American businesses and civil society organizations. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this after a meeting with an American delegation in Kyiv.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting in Kyiv with representatives of the German delegation, during which the main focus was on strengthening air defense and protecting Ukraine from Russian attacks. They also discussed new formats of security cooperation and the development of defense technologies.
